10 Easy Ally Behaviors you can start today!

Ashley Allen

CEO ITequality

By challenging our own status quo, we can all help to build bridges across our beautiful diverse communities. We will be focusing on inclusive behaviors to show your support for people who have Mental Disabilities, are LGBTQIA+, or part of BIPOC Communities. Being an equality champion, and an equity champion, does not need to be a full time job. In this session we are going to cover 10 simple behaviors you can exhibit to promote a more inclusive environment both in and out of work. Mental Disabilities, yes disabilities. As trendy as it can be to call these 'secret superpowers' the fact is, that can be really insensitive. 1. Approach people wearing headphones 2. Normalize a friendly wave, not everyone wants a handshake or a hug. 3. Review your stand up routine. Some jokes aren't all that funny. LGBTQIA+ One size does NOT fit all when being an ally. We will talk about why that is! 4. You don't have to love gender neutral bathrooms, but you can understand more about why they matter. 5. Intersex people deserve to have unique space. 6. Wear a pride pin! It helps so much! Yes you can be a BIPOC Ally: 7. Black Lives Matter means Black Lives Matter. 8. Don't judge a person's ethnicity by their skin color. 9. Say Names Correctly. If you can say Supercalifragelisticexpialidocious you can say their name. 10. Redefine what Professional Hair, Speech Dialects, and Educational History looks like.
